We’ve had the <strong>top creative directors</strong>, true professionals who share our philosophy: competence and knowledge of international wine market, ability to go beyond the trends and tailored creations.<br />
Our captivating labels and packages launched our brand through the world. An original and never trivial creativity led our wines to<strong> become real world icons. </strong></p>
<p>The labels of the Confronto wines have been awarded the prestigious <strong>Pentawards 2018</strong> and the three-dimensional label In&amp;out is worldwide famous for its copper carp and awarded with the <strong>Red-Dot Award in 2018</strong>.</p>

			<p>There is no effective term in Italian for the French word terroir, but take a ride with us and you will understand.<br />
Our property is about 50 hectares of vineyards, plus a small part for rent, for total 60 hectares all certified organic.</p>
<p><strong>Tenuta Madre</strong>, about 15 hectares, is located in the Municipality of Frisa (Ch) at 237 meters a.s.l. near the Valle del Moro, in a hilly area exposed to the South East where we grow mainly white grapes, including Pecorino, Trebbiano, Gewürztraminer and Falanghina. The Tenuta Madre experiences a particular microclimate, thanks to the inversion of the winds coming in alternation from the sea and the mountain, which shows a small glimpse of four seasons during a single day. Thermal excursion between day and night enhances the scents of the wines.</p>
<p><strong>Tenuta Morrecine</strong>, about 18 hectares, extends towards the sea near the port town of Ortona (Ch). It’s the favorite place for Montepulciano d&#8217;Abruzzo we use in our rosé, Pecorino, Chardonnay and Falanghina. The soil is mostly gravelly red, the area is exposed to South East and benefits of excellent ventilation for perfectly healthy grapes. You can breathe the air of the sea, your eyes peek at the blue horizon of the Adriatic and the contrast of the vineyard in full vegetative season offers a superb sight.</p>

			<p>The <strong>third Collefrisio vineyard</strong> of 15 hectares is a few hills further west, going up towards the Majella massif, between the towns of Tollo and Giuliano Teatino. The soil, the climate and the vines play their role fully connected one to the other and supporting the growth of red grape varieties, mainly Montepulciano d&#8217;Abruzzo. The pebbly soil, the constant winds, the temperature variations between day and night permit superb late harvests. They are the wisest vines, oldest and suitable for drying grapes.</p>
<p>Our most used training form is the traditional <strong> Pergola Abruzzese</strong> , also known as tendone or, locally, capanna. The vine canopy provides a desirable microclimate where leaves protect the grapes from summer daytime heat and the right ventilation. Grapes ripe with the necessary sugar content and preserving the aromas. All the work is manual and the mechanization is limited to the harvest period, when small tractors transport the grapes to the winery.</p>

			<p>We care about the environment our vineyards grow and live in.</p>
<p>Therefore, we follow <strong>organic farming</strong> in all owned land. The soil type and the context allow us to support natural growing without using synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides. If necessary, we apply mainly biological contact products such as sulphur and copper. In Collefrisio Winery, organic farming means patient vigilance and extreme care in agricultural operations.</p>
<p>We use to take good note of weather trends, humidity and other related data deriving from weather stations, in a <strong>Vineyards Journal</strong>. We set a timeline according to it and balance the extra time used in manual farming with a lower use of plant protection management.</p>

			<p>Harvest time is the most crucial period of the year, a celebration. The perfect moment when, despite technology, the application of technical and scientific progress merges to ancient unaltered rites.</p>
<p><strong>Manual picking</strong>, from August to October, requires a considerable use of work force, an elaborate setup and takes longer than the mechanical harvest. Since the beginning, harvesting by hand has been a convinced, matured choice we made to promote a better <strong>selection of bunches</strong>. The result of it is maximum control over the quality of our harvest and wines.</p>
<p>The atmosphere during grape harvest season in <strong>Collefrisio</strong> is preserved along the years. We connect to our childhood and, at the same time, look ahead to the future new wine.</p>

			<p>Bunches are <strong>cut individually by hand</strong>, placed in small baskets and taken to the cellar to be immediately processed. The grapes are put into a crusher/destemmer machine removing berries from the stems and breaking their skin. A soft pressing occurs before the fermentation starts and the must begins its journey to turn into wine. We do not use animal-derived ingredients and avoid chemicals at every stage of the winemaking process. On white wines, for example, we get tartaric precipitation using cold chain, mechanically processing a step otherwise intended for the use of preparations.</p>
<p>The ageing cellar contains<strong> Slavonian oak barrels</strong>, which perfectly match our production philosophy. We prefer to mild the roughness of a wine and enhance the original attributes of grape varieties without changing their structure.</p>
<p>Bottle filling and packaging operations finally prepare our wines for the distribution<strong> in over 50 countries</strong> around the world.</p>

			<p><strong>Collefrisio is a compendium of Abruzzo</strong>, a bowl of wonders for the traveler willing to discover an out of the ordinary side of Italy.</p>
<p>Abruzzo is the Green Region of Europe, home to three National Parks, a Regional Park and 38 regional oases and nature reserves.</p>
<p>One soul made of both, <strong>sea and land.</strong> Eyes closed to smell the scent of the Adriatic Sea in summer evenings and the gaze stretched to the reassuring embrace of the <strong>massif of the Majella</strong>, the great <strong>Mother</strong> of all mountains and inspirer of legends lost in the mists of times.</p>
<p>The Majella Mountain and the sea positively affect the <strong>pedoclimatic environment,</strong> creating an ideal microclimate for the maturation of different varieties of grapes. The distance to enjoy two amazing landscapes can be measured in just over half an hour by car: very few other places in the world can contain such a concentration of nature and flavors at this very high expression.</p>

			<p>Collefrisio Wine Estate is located between the Majella massif, the second highest mountain in the Apennines with its top of <strong>Mount Amaro at 2793 meters a.s.l</strong>., and the <strong>Costa dei Trabocchi.</strong><br />
The Terre dei Trabocchi is home to ten regional nature reserves and the Trabocchi, traditional wooden fishing structures that stretch from the coast towards the sea and served, once, as fishing machines and docking point for the small coasting trade. The Trabocchi are still usable in various ways, from catering to recreational and cultural events. <strong>The Via Verde dei Trabocchi borders</strong> the coastline: a cycle-pedestrian track now being completed that runs 42 kilometers by the sea and is part of the wider project of Adriatic Cycling Track.</p>

			<p>During the seventies, <strong>rural Abruzzo</strong> was experiencing a massive shift towards modernity. People freed themselves from essential needs, well-being peeped out between a new appliance, mechanization of farm work and new leisure time.</p>
<p>Rural people turned working in factories but keeping some land owned, small more or less. Agricultural Cooperatives collected an increasing number of<strong> small farmers</strong>, who derived a very important value from the placing of their products: the possibility of investing in the future and allowing the <strong>emancipation</strong> of their children through education.</p>
<p>The families of<strong> Amedeo De Luca</strong> and <strong>Antonio Patricelli</strong> hold a partnership since then. They still meet and support each other in mutual solidarity, linked by the care of the vineyards and the sharing of important moments of family life.</p>
<p>Today, Amedeo covers the role of agronomist and production director, Antonio is the commercial director: they are the Yin&amp;Yang that in the constant dialogue finds its balance. The constant and unstoppable growth of Cantina Collefrisio is due to the mix of their personalities. Lots of passion, maximum commitment and discipline, combined with a hint of healthy irreverence.</p>
